Master's Degree and a State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) Professional School Counselor Certificate OR probationary certificate eligibility: (1) A Bachelor's degree or higher and (2) an applicant must submit a letter from the college/university with the application indicating they meet probationary certificate eligibility requirements and will be placed on a school counselor probationary certificate upon employment.
Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to
convey ideas and instructions clearly and concisely. Knowledge of school
district organization, operations, policies and procedures. Skill to
interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Ability
to organize and maintain accurate records.
Identify, assess, and enroll students
in programming most conducive to their educational needs. Maintain suitable
number of students per class by placing students in appropriate programs.
Counsel students regarding educational decisions and disseminate program
information. Maintain status as GED examiner, and coordinate the unit testing
program, including but not limited to GED, educational achievement (EA), and
vocational testing, as warranted. Assist the principal with the provision of
staff development. Serve as representative of administration, as appropriate,
for Admission, Review and Dismissal committees and any other committees
determining student placement.
applicants not certified as a counselor must submit a worksheet stating
courses needed for certification, from the college/university to attend,
application, by the application deadline. The only acceptable
application is the Supplement dated 04/17 and the State of Texas
Application dated 09/09.
